Frances Jo Stubbs, a resident of rural Sterling for 45 years, died Friday, March 22, 1991, at Halstead Hospital at the age of 70.

She was born June 21, 1920, at Jetmore the daughter of Joseph and Cora Livonia Parker Boyce. She graduated from Jetmore High School in 1938, and from Sterling College in 1942. She was a teacher and had coached at Sterling College, Obee Grade School, and Nickerson Grade School, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women was superintendent of the Junior Youth Department, and was on the Building Committee for Fellowship Hall and the Education Building, was vice president of the Mary Martha Circle, all at Sterling and was a member of the Kansas National Education Association.

She married Jack R. Stubbs at Sterling on Dec. 10, 1941.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons, James R., Anchorage, Alaska, and Philip A., Sterling; two daughters, Alicia Jo Gardner, Odessa, Texas, and Linda L. Hoffman, Hutchinson, KS; step-mother, Lucy Boyce, Wichita; a brother, Frank, Inman, two sisters, Ethel Dresie, Jetmore, and Sarah York, Garden City; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial graveside services were held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Sterling Community Cemetery with the Rev. James Graves officiating. The body was cremated. There was a time of remembrance Tuesday afternoon at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Memorials may be sent to the church or to the American Cancer Society, both in care of Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
