Margaret Elizabeth Matherley was born on January 9, 1845, in Lebanon, Indiana, the daughter of Elizabeth and Manford. She married Jacob H. Smisor on December 5, 1866, in Rush, Indiana. They had two children during their marriage. She died on November 7, 1923, in Sterling, Kansas, at the age of 78, and was buried there.
