Death of Geo. Saxton

Geo. Saxton died at his home in Sterling, Wednesday morning, Nov. 25th and was buried Thursday at 2 p.m. by Dr. D. H. Snowden.  Obituary next week.

George W. Saxton

George W. Saxton was born in Center County, Pa., December 4, 1846, and died at his home in Sterling, Kansas, Nov. 25, 1903, from the effects of a shell wound over the heart received in the battle of Charles City Crossroads, 1863.  He enlisted in the 105th Pa. Regiment at the beginning of the war and remained with the army until its close.  On the 2nd day of July 1868, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna E Schall at Greenlees, Pa. To this union were born eleven children, four of whom died in infancy.  Mr. Saxton had a wide acquaintance throughout this section, having lived many years on a farm in Reno County and afterward in Sterling.  For some years he was a stock buyer in Sterling and was regarded as an honorable man in business.  Dr. D. H. Snowden conducted the funeral services on Friday, and on Sunday afternoon preached the funeral sermon in the M.E. Church. He spoke kind words of Mr. Saxton’s many good qualities.
