HELEN JACOBS CROOKS

Helen Jacobs Crooks retired librarian of the Sterling Public Library, died Monday, January 18, 1999, at Sterling Presbyterian Manor at the age of 99.

She was born June 10, 1899, at Sterling, the daughter of Ike and Alice Daugherty Jacobs. She graduated from Sterling College and received a Master’s Degree in history from the University of Chicago.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Lyons; AAUW and Chapter W, P.E.O., Sterling.

On July 19, 1931, she married Hal Crooks. He died Dec. 9, 1973.

Survivors include two nephews, Donald J. Edwards, Louisville, KY and Philip Edwards, Bloomington, IL.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Jacobs and Theresa Edwards.

A graveside service was held at 2:30  p.m. Wednesday in Sterling Community Cemetery with the Rev. James Graves officiating.
