JOHN COMER
John Comer was born in Quenberger Co., West Virginia, April 18, 1840. Died at his home in Sterling, Kansas, April 21, 1914. Aged 74 years 5 days, He was a soldier of the Civil War, enlisting August 6, 1861, at Marietta, Ohio, and re-enlisting, after three years of service for the rest of the war. He was honorably discharged at Wheeling, W. Va. In July 1865, having served nearly four years in the midst of the strife as a member of the 36th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
He was united in marriage to Jane Haines in Jackson, Ohio, in December 1866. Four children were born to them, one of whom, Mrs. Robert Carr, is living. His wife preceded him to the Glory world about one year. Mr. Comer was a quiet, reserved man. Always a good citizen and in the closing months of his life was an earnest Christian.
A good man has passed on to his reward; the march of another soldier is over. Under the arching sky, he rests, awaiting the final bugle’s call.
