Judson Southland Chapin was born on January 17, 1841, in Jamestown, New York, his father, Asahel, was 36 and his mother, Catherine, was 20. He married Fanny Olney Clarke Chapin on October 31, 1867, in Conneaut, Ohio. They had two children during their marriage. He died on July 21, 1879, in Sterling, Kansas, at the age of 38, and was buried there.

Fanny Olney Clarke Chapin was born on June 9, 1843, in Providence, Rhode Island, her father, William, was 40 and her mother, Caroline, was 33. She married Judson Southland Chapin and they had two children together. She had been married 11 years before her young husband/father died. Fanny Olney Clarke Chapin married George Jeffries Pitman in Fordington, Lincolnshire, England, on August 25, 1878, when she was 35 years old. She died in 1930 at her daughter’s home in Rochester, NY at the age of 87 having been married to George Pitman 52 years.
