Albertine Barbey was born at Ber…, France, December 1, 1850, and died at the home of her son, Henry, Sunday evening, October 23, 1927, aged 76 years, 10 months, 18 days. She was married October 8, 1860, to Rene P. Bourgain. To this union four children were born, three sons and one daughter. In May 1872 the family came to America, locating at Chicago, Illinois, where they resided a year before coming to Sterling. After living in Sterling about three years they took up a homestead southwest of town, living there until 1906, when Mrs. Bourgain went to Scott county, residing with her son, Henry. In September 1919 they returned to Sterling where they have lived ever since.. She was taken ill last February and was a patient sufferer for nearly nine months, during which time she was tenderly cared for by her sons and daughter.
Mrs. Bourgain was a faithful member of the Triumph M.E. church taking an active interest in Sunday School and missionary work.
Her husband preceded her in death on April 26, 1913.
She leaves to mourn her death, one daughter, Mrs. Rose Lyon, two sons, Rene A. and Henry, all of Sterling. The eldest son Albert died August 4, 1909. She also leaves twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister living in Paris, France; also a great many neighbors and friends. Funeral services were held from Triumph church, Tuesday, October 25 at 2 p.m. in charge of Rev. Johnson. The body was tenderly laid to rest in Sterling Cemetery.
