Aug 7, 1997 issue of the Sterling (KS) Bulletin: Mildred G. “Mickey” Alspaugh, a lifetime resident of Sterling, died Thursday, July 31, 1997, at the Sterling Presbyterian Manor at the age of 88. She was born Jan. 20, 1909, at Sterling to Frank and Ida Carter Swartz. She married Roy Trimble on June 24, 1934, at Sterling. He died on May 28, 1951. On Nov. 26, 1959, she married C. E. “Swede” Alspaugh at Sterling. He died on June 19, 1976. She was a homemaker and in the 1930s taught high school English in Turon. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, P. E. O., Sorosis Club, and the Sterling College Alumni Association, all of Sterling. Survivors include a stepson, Don Alspaugh, Lawrenceville, GA; a stepdaughter, Barbara Bruning, Sterling; a nephew, Jarrell O’Kelley, Defiance, OH; a niece, Shirley Klady, Greeley, CO; five great-nephews and three great-nieces. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Stewart, Greeley, CO, and Margaret O’Kelley, Ellinwood. Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Graves officiating. Burial was in the Sterling Community Cemetery.
