Services for Bruce E. Yeakel, 65, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Brady officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Sterling Community Cemetery, Sterling.
Mr. Yeakel died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
He was born Sept. 19, 1931, in Wichita, the son of Donald and Verna Clark Yeakel.
Mr. Yeakel graduated from Sterling High School in 1949 and attended Hutchinson Community Junior College. He moved to Lawrence in 1956 and graduated from Kansas University in 1958.
Mr. Yeakel, a construction developer, served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Williams Fund, American Association of Retired Persons and Eagles Lodge in Lawrence, and was past president of the Lawrence Country Club and Quarterback Club. He enjoyed sports and traveling and was an avid KU fan.
He married Janet Joan Holland on Feb. 1, 1952, in Denver. She died April 2, 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Rich, Lawrence, and Steve, Louisville, Ky.; a daughter, Amy Yeakel, Lawrence; a sister, Donna Dill, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and six grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to an educational scholarship fund for Amy Yeakel’s children.
