Graydon Layfield Wurst

Sterling – Graydon Layfield Wurst, 88, died Sept. 20, 2002, at his home in Sterling.

He was born Nov. 21, 1913, at Abbyville, the son of William and Della Miller Wurst. He was a lifetime resident of Sterling, where he graduated from High School and worked as a carpenter.

He belonged to St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, and the American Legion, Sterling.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater.

On Nov. 25, 1948, he married Agnes Downey at La Junta, Colo. She survives.

Other Survivors include three sons; two sisters; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Cundith.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with Father Colin Boor presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today with rosary afterward, at Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Sterling Public Library, in care of the funeral home.
