   Auverne Lee Wagerle died at his home in Sterling yesterday, July 14, 1992, at the age of 67.
   A lifetime Sterling resident, Mr. Wagerle was an officer with the Sterling Police Department and previously had been a tile setter for 22 years.
   Born May 8, 1925, in Nickerson to Frank E. and Ruth E. Meyer Wagerle, he married Dene Ray on July 20, 1947, in Sterling.
   He was a World War II veteran and a member of the United Methodist Church in Sterling.
   Survivors are his wife; three sons, Kerry and John of Sterling and Craig of Essington, Penn.; a daughter, Jana Sue Wagerle of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Keith of Orange, Calif., and Charles of Wichita; two sisters, Frances Townsend of Riverside, Calif., and Kathryn Keil of Huffman, Tex.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
   The Rev. James Graves will conduct a funeral at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. burial will be in the Sterling Community Cemetery.
   Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Porter and Sillin Funeral Home.
   Memorial gifts may be sent to the church or to Rice County Hospice.
