![]() STERLING, Kan. — Vaughn L. Thompson, 75, died Saturday (May 9, 2009) at his home in Sterling.He was born Sept. 16, 1933, in Big Springs to Jacob R. and Delphia (Dunning) Thompson.He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On April 15, 1953, he married Carolyn Becker. They lived in Cambridge, before moving to Sterling. He was a tool pusher for Sterling Drilling Company until his retirement.He was a member of the American Legion of Sterling and the VFW in Lyons, Kan.He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Deanna Jo Thompson; grandson, Justin Lewis; and son-in-law, Lenn Lewis.Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Sterling; two sons, Kenneth Thompson of Sterling and Keith Thompson and Tammy Lackey of Westcliffe, Colo.; four daughters, Karen Lewis of Phoenix, Ariz., Judy Mousel and husband, Mike of Cambridge, Dixie Ernst and husband, Dan of Lincoln and Lois Thompson of Hutchinson, Kan.; brother, Kenneth Thompson of Memphis, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be Wednesday, 4 p.m., at Birzer Funeral Home in Sterling with the Rev. J. Douglas Neumann officiating. Burial will be in the Sterling Community Cemetery.Memorials may be given to the Rice/Reno County Hospice or Sterling Public Library.Birzer Funeral Home of Sterling is in charge of arrangements. |
