PAYNE, DOUGLAS W. Douglas Wilson “Doug” Payne, 89, formerly of Alpine, died April 22, 2007, at his home in Lyons, Kansas. Born on January 11, 1918, in Roanoke, VA, to Nicodemus Carlton ‘Nick” Payne and Virginia ‘Virgie’ May Clark. Doug was a retired boatswain’s mate first class, U.S. Navy who served in World War II and the Korean War. Survivors include oldest son and daughter, Lt. Com. U.S. Navy, Ret. Douglas C. Payne and Major U.S. Army, Ret. Virginia Johnson; 12 other children; 21 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Charlotte Virginia ‘Jinny’ Cool; daughter, Amanda Payne; and two grandsons.
