Arthur H. ‘Buddy’ Oden

Arthur H. “Buddy” oden, a lifetime resident of Sterling, died Monday, Aug. 17,1998, at Hutchinson Hospital at the age of 62.

He was born July 29, 1936, at Lyons, the son of W. H. and Anita Whealy Oden.

He was a farmer, a veteran of the Kansas Air National Guard, a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion and Boy Scout leader, all at Sterling. He was a present Rice County commissioner and secretary on the board of the Ark Valley Electric Association.

On Aug. 22, 1959, he married Janice L. Winterstein at Liberal.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Arthur H. Oden II, Las Vegas, Nev.; Guy Todd Oden, Alden; Jon B. Oden, Sterling; a daughter Sue D. Watson, Salina; parents W. H. and Anita Oden, Sterling; a brother, Robert Oden, Overland Park; a sister Fira Sue Stout, Peoria, Ill.; and two grandchildren, Guy and Jill Oden, Alden.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Graves officiating. Burial will be in the Sterling Community Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or Buddy Oden Scholarship Fund, both in care of Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling.
