STERLING – Daniel C. Ochs Jr., 63, died July 9, 2010, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kan. He was born Sept. 26, 1946, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Daniel C. and Doris Cook Ochs Sr. He was a Sterling resident for 18 years, formerly of Hutchinson. He was a small business owner of two gas stations, a truck driver and worked for Longfellow Foundations. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1964. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Sterling, Teamsters Union, and Habitat for Humanity volunteer. He was U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart.On March 23, 1968, he married Debbie Reavis in Hutchinson. Survivors include: his wife, Debbie, of the home; three sons, Daniel C. “Danno” Ochs III and wife Alicia, Hutchinson, Jeremy Ochs, Gainesville, Texas, and Ryan Ochs and wife Mandy, Sterling, Kan.; two sisters, Margaret Burkhart, Conway Springs, Kan., and Mary Wallsten, Hutchinson; four grandsons, Brady Ochs, Daniel C. Ochs IV, Trevor Ochs and Nathan Ochs; and nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents.Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at United Methodist Church, Sterling, Kan., with the Rev. Marvin Ewertt officiating. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery, Sterling, Kan., with military honors by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, Kan.
