Kay came to Sterling in the 1950s from California. Kay served as secretary to Presidents of Sterling College for nearly 30 years and played a vital role in the lives of Sterling College students. She taught the Sunday School Class for college students at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church and was a friend and mentor to many.

Kathleen “Kay” Kane
Kathleen ‘Kay’ Kane, 94, Sterling, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, at Sterling Presbyterian Manor.
She was born Dec. 16, 1911, at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Anne Marie Kane. A resident of Sterling since 1951, formerly of Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, Calif., she graduated from Stadium High School in 1930 and attended Biola College for three years in Los Angeles. She was an executive secretary to three Sterling College presidents before retiring in 1978. She was the first presidential secretary for Westmont College, Santa Barbara.
She was a member of United Presbyterian Church, a Prayer Warrior for Sterling College, Mutual Improvement Club, all at Sterling. She taught the college Sunday School class for many years, then the high school and adult classes. She was in charge of the nursery for 16 years during church services.
At the age of 87, she wrote a novel, THE COURAGEOUS DOCTOR.
Survivors include two brothers, Richard Kane, Costa Mesa, Calif., and Maurice ‘Maury’ Kane, Hawaii; and many nieces and nephews.
A brother, Philip Kane, and a sister, Enid Barlow, preceded her in death.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, in the Sterling Community Cemetery with the Rev. Seth Svaty officiating. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling.
Memorials are suggested to Sterling College, Presbyterian Manor or United Presbyterian Church, all of Sterling, or Westmont College, Santa Barbara, Calif., in care of the funeral home.
