STERLING – Robert Leo Flickinger, 88, died May 31, 2015, at Elm Grove Estates, Hutchinson. He was born June 9, 1926, in rural Reno County, the son of Joseph W. and Alma Stuckey Flickinger. He graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1944. A longtime resident of rural Sterling, he was a retired farmer.

 He attended United Methodist Church, was a member of American Legion, and Men’s and Couples Bowling League, all of Sterling. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in the Philippines.

On July 24, 1949, he married Mary Ella Fulkerson in Sterling. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Norman Scott Flickinger and Bradley Wayne and Rhonda Flickinger, both of Sterling; daughter, Janice Louise and David Duran, North Bend, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Catherine Flickinger; son, James Flickinger; and brother, Clyde Flickinger.

Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015, at United Methodist Church, Sterling, with the Rev. Marvin Ewertt presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m. at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.

Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery, Sterling, with military honors conducted by the Sterling American Legion. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, Newton, in care of the funeral home.
