William Jesse ‘Bill’ Crowe
STERLING William Jesse “Bill” Crowe, 60, died May 27, 2000, at his home in Sterling.
He was born. March 28, 1940, at St. Louis, the son of Marius L and Madaline Porter Crowe. A Sterling resident since 1991, he was a master carpenter for Wesley Medical Center and a machinist for Boeing, both at Wichita, and was co-owner of Rollin Dough Bakery Sterling. (See story below concerning father)
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1957 to 1960.
On May 2, 1988, he married Joyce Lynn Johnson at Hermann, Mo. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Michael, Bramen, Okla. a daughter, Malinda “Mindy” Farha, Olympia, Wash.; a sister, Carol L Tamer, Lebanon, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral Will: be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Sterling, with the Rev. Thomas H. Davis officiating. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the World War II Veterans Memorial or to First Christian Church, Augusta, both in care of Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling.
Marius Louis Crowe was born Derritt Alstine.
Derritt’s parents were Maude Alice Lawless Alstine and Francis “Frank” W Alstine.
Derritt had one sister, Alice Virginia Alstine who later may have used the name Lawless, and two brothers, Francis Alstine (birth name) Clyde William Randolph (adopted name), and Theodore “Theo” “Ted” R Alstine (birth name) possibly Phipps (adopted name).
Derritt’s grandfather, David “D.” B. Lawless placed the four children up for adoption after their mother was taken to Nevada, Missouri and their father was taken to Jefferson City, Missouri.
Derritt was adopted by Magdalena “Lena” Ritter Crowe Wilmsmeier and Jesse Sorensen Crowe (Krogh) and his name was changed to Marius Louis Crowe.
Marius had no known adoptive siblings.
