A. Gene Cox, Lyons, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 1990, at the District Hospital in Lyons at the age of 51.

He was born Jan. 3, 1939, at Sterling, the son of Earl and Opal McManama Cox. He married Judy Lea Groth on Aug. 21, 1960, in Hutchinson.

He was owner and operator of Cox Painting Co., and a Lyons City Councilman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the VFW, Lyons.

Survivors include his wife; a son Shawn, of the home, a daughter, Cynthia Bender, Great Bend, his mother Opal ‘Betty’ Cox, Lyons; two sisters, Verna Curry, Hutchinson, Evelyn DeLoney, Reno, Nev.; two brothers, Robert, Hutchinson, and Richard, Indiana; a grandson, Brandon Bender, Great Bend.

Services were held Monday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church, Lyons, with the Rev. Martin Groote officiating. Burial was in the Sterling Community Cemetery.  The family suggests memorial gifts to the church organ fund or the A. Gene Cox scholarship fund. Sillin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
