ALONZO LEROY McMurphy —Alonzo Leroy McMurphy, a farmer and a lifetime resident of the Sterling community, died at the age of 73 on Friday, November 13, 1987, at St. Joseph Hospital, Witchita. Born May 6, 1914, in rural Sterling, he married Doris Sidebottom April 1, 1948, in Lyons. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of American Legion Post 128 and the Odd Fellows Lodge, both of Sterling. — Survivors include the wife, of the home; son, Melvil Muxlow, Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughters, Phyllis Orr, Kansas City, Missouri, and Anita Gough, Kennewick, Washington; brothers, Nevin and Glen, both of Sterling; sister, Hazel Tyler, Oklahoma City; six grandchildren and one step-grandchild. — Services were held Monday at 1;30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Sterling, with the Rev. John Martin, officiating. Burial was in the Sterling Community Cemetery with military graveside rites.
