George Manuel, a former resident of Sterling, passed away last Thursday at Lyons. Rev. Thomas of the A.M.E. Church at Sterling conducted the funeral services at the home of Mrs. Edwards a daughter of the deceased, and at whose place he had been spending his last years. After the death of Mr. Manual’s wife three years ago he had moved to Nickerson, later to Lyons. While in this vicinity he homesteaded eighty acres of land now owned by Don Dilly. Mr. Manuel reached the age of eighty-six years and was an industrious colored man. Two sons in Colorado, a daughter in Indiana and one in Lyons survive the deceased. Internment was made last Friday at the Sterling cemetery.
