Obituary STERLING BULLETIN 5/23/1912

Saturday, May 11th, as Harvey Kurnes was seated on a stairway, he was taken suddenly ill and fell to the sidewalk on our principal business street. The following Friday he passed away at his home in the southeast part of town at 5:30 a.m. Rev. Krisel, pastor of the A.M.E. church conducted the funeral Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The deceased was an old soldier and a member of the Post at Sterling which had charge of the services at the cemetery.

Mr. Kurnes was born near Terra Haute, Indiana, and at the age of 34 years was married to Miss Ellen Tucker at Sedalia, MO. His term of service in the Civil War was nearly three years and the full name was Samuel Harvey Kurnes.
