Joshua Emigh died at his home in this city Saturday, April 21, after a short illness of a little over a week, and was buried Monday, April 26, by his old comrades of Meade Post G.A.R. after a short service at the house by Rev. Stanley of Lyons.
Grandpa Emigh was born in Pennsylvania, Dec.14, 1828, his age was 68 years, 4 months minus one day. He left Pennsylvania when a young man and went to Ohio where he married Mrs. Rebecca Wilson. When the Civil war broke out he answered to the country’s call and enlisted in Co. D, 2nd regiment, West Virginia volunteers, and served his country faithfully until the close of the war. He came to Kansas in the year 1883 and has resided in Sterling since then. His wife died in 1888, and he was married again to Mrs. Eleanor Klady in 1891. He leaves his wife of this city and one daughter in Ohio to mourn his death. He was a consistent Christian and a kind old man and will be missed by man.
